Swapping a toilet seat is one of the quickest bathroom refreshes you can do yourself. In this short vlog, a quick-release seat goes on with nothing more than a screwdriver, then lifts straight off so you can clean around the hinges properly.
What happens in the video
- Old seat off. Undo the two hinge fixings and lift the old seat away.
- Hinge bases in. Fit the new hinge bases through the pan holes and tighten them down with a screwdriver.
- Seat on. Line the seat up over the hinge posts and press it down until it clicks into place.
- Off for cleaning. Press the release and the whole seat lifts off, leaving the hinge area open to wipe clean.
Before you buy a replacement seat
- Measure the distance between the two hinge holes and the length from the holes to the front of the pan.
- Check the seat shape (round, oval or D-shape) matches your pan.
- Look for a seat listed as compatible with your toilet model where possible.
